Ms. Angela Joo-Hyun Kang, Founder and Executive
President of Global Competitiveness Empowerment Forum (GCEF) participated in the Women 20 (W20), the transnational network that brings
together women leaders of businesses, entrepreneurship ventures, think tanks
and civil society, during its Indonesia G20/W20 presidency in 2022 as a Co-Head
of South Korean delegation. It is the 6th year since Ms. Kang has
been representing South Korea at W20 from its German G20/W20 presidency in
2017, since she was invited by GIZ, a German development agency of the Federal
Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), which supported 2017
W20 Germany Secretariat.
W20 is one of official engagement groups of
G20, like B20(Business 20), C20(Civil Society 20), L20(Labor 20), Y20(Youth
20), T20(Think Tank 20). Incepted in Australia in 2014, W20 was established for
the first time during the Turkish presidency of the G20 in 2015 and its
activities continued and expanded in China (2016), Germany (2017), Argentina
(2018), Japan (2019), Saudi Arabia (2020), and Italy (2021).
The kick-off meeting of W20 and G20 EMPOWER for
the W20 Indonesian presidency was held on December 22, 2022 in a hybrid format,
with remarks by H.E. Mrs. Bintang Puspayoga, Minister for Women Empowerment and
Child Protection, H.E. Mrs. Sri Mulyani, Minister of Finance, H.E. Mrs. Retno
L. P. Marsudi, and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia
with attendance of more than 300 women representatives G20 countries including
Indonesian local representatives. Co-Chairs of 2022 W20 Indonesia, Ms. Uli
Silalahi, VP of the Economic Sector, Cooperation and Medium-Sized Enterprises
Department and VP of Foreign Affairs Department at KOWANI), and Ms. Dian
Siswarini, President Director of PT XL Axiata Tbk were officially introduced,
along with Co-Chairs of 2022 G20 Empower Indonesia.
At the W20 Initial Meeting, virtually held on
January 31, 2022, there were presentations and discussions about priority
issues, introduction about governance, events, and timelines, and frameworks of
2022 W20 Indonesia, led by Co-Chairs, Ms. Uli Silalahi and Ms. Dian
Siswarini, presented by Advisor, Sita Aripurnami, and moderated by Farahdhiba
Tenrilemba, with online attendance about 100 women delegates of G20 countries.
The four key topics of 2022 W20 Indonesia are
discrimination & equity, economic inclusion, marginalized women, and health.
Ms. Kang participated in the economic inclusion working group advocating to support MSMEs owned and managed by women.
W20 delegates from G20 countries prepared the W20 communiqué, the list of policy recommendations as a group intelligence
work through various international online and offline dialogues during several
months and the final W20 communiqué was presented to G20 leaders through the
2022 G20 Indonesia presidency at the 2022 W20 Indonesia Summit in July 21, 2022.
Ms. Kang contributed to the Global
Summit on Gender-Responsive Public Procurement on March 1, 2022, co-hosted by W20 and
International Trade Center, ITC, by inviting and supporting Ms. Moo-kyung, Han, a Korean lawmaker
who was the Chair of the Korean Women Entrepreneurs Association.
