•  Description:

While traditionally the onus to combat corruption has been placed upon government by its people, with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development it is clear that without concerted efforts, it won’t be possible to achieve sustainable development. Concrete actions are required not only from the public sector, but also from private sector, civil society, and communities. Multi-stakeholder engagement and partnerships at all levels are essential to comprehensively address corruption and accelerate achievement of the SDGs.

The objective of the workshop is to showcase the various mechanisms aimed at monitoring progress in efforts to prevent and combat corruption, including the 2030 Agenda, the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism, preparations for the “Special session of the General Assembly against corruption” (UNGASS), Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan, and the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption; highlight good practices and lessons learned; identify challenges; and provide recommendations for stakeholders to move from commitment to action.

More specifically, the objectives of the workshop are as follows:

1. Showcase the various anti-corruption mechanisms aimed at monitoring progress in anti-corruption efforts and reforms.

2. Identify gaps and challenges in the implementation, coordination and monitoring of efforts in preventing and combatting corruption, through the perspectives of various anti-corruption review mechanisms and processes.

3. Illustrate the importance of efforts to collect high quality data on corruption, to promote evidence-based anti-corruption policies in line with the 2030 Agenda, UNCAC, and other anti-corruption mechanisms.

4. Provide recommendations to strengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration and the role of civil society, private sector in monitoring anti-corruption reforms and efforts through various mechanisms and processes, and holding governments accountable for progress of implementing anti-corruption efforts.
