The Fair Player Club Seminar for Compliance and Business Ethics

with Incheon Metropolitan City

Global Competitiveness Empowerment Forum (GCEF) organized the Fair Player Club Seminar for Compliance and Business Ethics, co-hosted by Incheon Metropolitan City, Incheon Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Global Compact Network Korea (GCNK), on December 2, 2016 at the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

This seminar, sponsored by Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE), Ministry of Interior (MOI), Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), and Siemens Integrity Initiative and organized by Global Competitiveness Empowerment Forum (GCEF), was the seventh and the last seminar in the second cycle of Fair Player Club (FPC) for participants from private enterprises and public organizations located in Incheon. The seminar introduced global and domestic trends of compliance and business ethics and anti-corruption policies, programs, and management systems and shared anti-corruption cases of public and private enterprises.

The first Fair Player Club seminar with Seoul Metropolitan Government was held on July 14, 2016 at the Korea Press Center, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The second Fair Player Club seminar with Busan Metropolitan city was held on September 20, 2016 at the Busan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in Busan, Republic of Korea. The third Fair Player Club seminar with Gwangju Metropolitan City was held on September 22, 2016 at the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. The fourth Fair Player Club seminar with Daegu Metropolitan City was held on November 11, 2016 at the Daegu EXCO, in Daegu, Republic of Korea. The fifth Fair Player Club seminar with Ulsan Metropolitan City was held on November 28, 2016 at the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Ulsan, Republic of Korea. The sixth Fair Player Club seminar with Daejeon Metropolitan City was held on November 30, 2016 at the Daejeon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

Mr. JUN, Sung-soo, Vice Mayor, Incheon Metropolitan City, in his opening speech that “Nowadays, only companies with integrity can survive and compliance and business ethics are needed more than ever because they are directly connected with trust from consumers. I hope this seminar can be a great opportunity to strengthen the public-private partnership and enhance trust and integrity of clean Incheon Metropolitan City.”

Mr. KIM, Kee-wan, Executive Vice-Chairman, Incheon Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said in his welcoming speech that “I hope this seminar can be a great help for companies based in Incheon to strengthen capability of compliance and business ethics, and address the issues related with the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. By solidifying the foundation of anti-corruption, compliance and business ethics, I expect Incheon to create more companies and jobs and boost its economy for young generation.”

Mr. IM, Hong-jae, Vice President and Secretary-General of GCNK, said in his welcoming speech that “We are planning to share the current trends and information on integrity and anti-corruption with public and private companies and increase the public-private partnership”. He also presented CSR and global anti-corruption trends and introduced international regulations and conventions of anti-corruption including OECD Anti-Bribery Convention, UN Convention Against Corruption, and UK Bribery Act.

Ms. LEE Eun-kyung, Team Leader of GCNK, introduced global anti-corruption guidelines and compliance system and presented definition and types of corruption, risks of corruption and anti-corruption opportunities, global compliance materials, and ‘Anti-corruption Ethics and Compliance Guideline for Business and SMEs'.

Ms. HWANG, In-seon, Senior Deputy Manager of ACRC, introduced the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, which was enacted from September 28, 2016, along with her explanation about its application scope, prevention ways of improper solicitation, and exceptional rules. She emphasized that improving integrity in government and business is a good way to build public trust and South Korea’s competitiveness.

Mr. LEE, Sang-yong, Director in Corporate Strategy & Planning Team, Incheon International Airport Corporation, presented its business management policies and programs related with CSR in domestic and foreing scope. He also explained its multi-dimensional stakeholder management efforts, which resulted in its consecutive 1st ranking as the world's best airport for eleven years.

Mr. PARK, Jong-kun (Ryan), Regional Compliance Officer of Siemens Ltd. Seoul, shared his company case regarding compliance and business ethics by introducing its compliance system, structure, and collective actions of Siemens AG and Siemens Ltd. Seoul, based on its founder’s philosophy as well as its strong belief that business should be built on compliance as its top priority.

Ms. Angela Joo-hyun KANG, Founder and Executive President of GCEF, introduced Fair Player Club and its activities. Also, she emphasized possibility of improvement of corporate culture through the Fair Play Pledge in the time of introduction of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and benefits of collective action between private and public sectors as well as among companies, even with competitors.

Through out Cycle 2 in 2016, Fair Player Club endeavored for prevention of corruption risks of companies and strengthen their capacity by spreading importance of compliance and business ethics to companies nationwide in major cities, through public private partnership with metropolitan governments as well as local chambers of commerce and industry in Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, Daegu, Ulsan, Daejeon, and Incheon. Fair Player Club appreciates to all the metropolitan governments, local Chamber of Commerce & Industry organizations, and many participants from various public and private enterprises.

In 2017, Fair Player Club will also endeavor to create a fair and clean environment in South Korea, through public private partnership among foreign embassies, foreign chambers of commerce & industry, and companies from various country origins, in order to promote dialogs, exchanges and Collective Action about anti-corruption, compliance and business ethics.
